Intern in China

Volunteer with Josiah’s Covenant

Come spend a week with us… or more
Are you looking for a place to bring a team from your church or community to experience China? We have a great facility to meet that need.

We also have opportunities for people to come and serve. We have many service projects ranging from carpentry to digging in the dirt. And if you have special skills, we would value your input. These may include organic farming, training on special needs of at-risk women, physical therapy and many other things. Please contact us and let us know what your talents are and how you would like to serve these girls.

What type of clothing do I need?
Comfortable clothing that can get dirty is essential, as are waterproof boots and/or shoes. Late spring can get hot, but the summers are mild due to the rainy season. The rest of the year is mild, but the dorm will be cold in the winter as there is no central heating in our province. It is important to have good rain gear if you are interning during the rainy season because you will be working outdoors.

What is the housing like?
Interns (and some volunteers depending on the purpose of your visit) can live for free at the dorm. Each dorm room has up to four people with a bathroom and shower for each room. On site there are plenty of recreational areas, such as basketball court, ping pong table, natural trail, and badminton.

Space is limited to availability and current needs at that time.

I’m Ready to Come!
If you are ready to serve, here is the process for volunteering:

  1. Download the application here and fill it out.
  2. Set up a Skype interview (we will contact you).
  3. For the safety of the girls, to volunteer you may need to complete a background check from your local government. Please check online for the requirements in your region.

Intern with Josiah’s Covenant

Why intern with Josiah’s Covenant?
At Josiah’s Covenant we want to create a culture that involves hard-working, passionate and compassionate people. We want to foster this culture by considering smart, creative men and women who through collaboration and determination are able to contribute to our vision as well as their own learning and growth. As such, some of the qualities that we look for in prospective interns include:

  • Flexibility
  • Ability to adapt to new situations
  • Independence
  • Experience in multi-cultural settings

Interns are essential to the on-going work we are doing for the orphan girls. You will lavishly love these girls, organize training material, implement new projects and systems, and learn how healing the land adds to healing of these young girls. Contact us if you are interested and want more information.

Important notes:

  • All interns must be 18 or older.
  • All internships are a minimum of one month.
  • Upon acceptance into the program, all interns are required to pay a $150 deposit. This deposit will be refunded upon completion of the internship.

What types of internships are available?
Internships are available in the following departments:

  • Farming
  • Training
  • Mentoring
  • Communications
  • Management

Where is the internship located?
Ideally, all internships are based at the farm in Anning, Yunnan, China. Special concessions can be made for an internship in communications, as a majority of the work can be done online or speaking with partners outside of China.

When can I intern at Josiah’s Covenant?
Most Josiah’s Covenant internships are available year-round. Positions are filled on an ongoing basis as applications are received. We will begin reviewing applications for summer and annual durations in March and filling positions shortly thereafter.

How long is a Josiah’s Covenant internship?
The minimum time commitment required for a Josiah’s Covenant internship is one month, which are typically over the summer. You may apply to intern for up to a year.

How many days per week do interns work?
Interns volunteer full time, working 40-plus hours a week on a five-day schedule. Every intern gets two days off each week, not necessarily Saturday and Sunday. Scheduling varies by department.

We welcome all types of applicants, as long as they are willing to commit to creating a family with the team at Josiah’s Covenant and the girls at the farm during their internship. We have had interns from the United States and Europe. Interns must be 18 or older.

Do I have to know Chinese to intern with Josiah’s Covenant?
